QUESTION: HOW WILL THE CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS AFFECT HIGHER EDUCATION?

(See the May 17, 2009 "NEW YORK TIMES" news article link below)

ANSWER: There is in this, the need to be present with that which is reality. And schools of "higher learning," need to take notice of the bottom line.

Always has there been a dream of what a college or university can become. But in these dreams, there needs to be one to understand the "bottom line. . .that education is first!" To consider the reputation of the college or university as being above this goal, is not a good idea.

The primary goal of education is to "EDUCATE"! It is not to prance about the land, and thumb one's lapels, about the "NAME AND PUBLIC AWE" of the educational institution.

There are many small colleges and universities that are very efficient in offering a good education to its students. These colleges and universities are not "known or celebrated" except by those who have attended, graduated, and profited by a very good education. These students have profited by an educational system and staff, who is both concerned and supportive of the students and their futures.

This is the mark of a "good school".

Yes, those Colleges and Universities, who want to have a "Reputation", are going to suffer greatly. Funds are simply not going to be available to continue the expenses of marketing a "Reputation". And, no matter how high the tuition, these institutions will not cover the necessary dollars to keep up the "publicity" and overhead.

Will a good quality education slip away from the public because of fund deficits?

The answer is a resounding, "NO"!

The emphasis will be on a quality education directed by those who care for education. The quality education will not be from those schools who prefer the "reputation of the institution".

Teachers who take pride in teaching and supporting students and staff who really believe in supporting students to do their best, is the wave of the future.

QUALITY, NOT REPUTATION will be the saving grace of higher education.
